Washer Leaking Water From Drain Hose

Leaks at the back of the washer are often caused by loose or damaged supply hoses. Unplug the washing machine from the power outlet. Inspect the drain hose for leaks. If the washer is pushed too far against the wall the hose can rub ag ainst the wall and form a leak.

Hand tighten both water hoses connected to the washing machine hot and cold. Carefully slide the washer out from the wall to access the water hoses. The drain hose most commonly leaks from the connection between the pump and the back of the washer. Look for signs of a loose hose clamp or a leaking hose connected to the pump first.

If the machine only leaks during these cycles you can likely rule out damaged water supply hoses. Use a small bucket under the water hoses to catch any water. Turn off hot and cold water supply to washing machine. Leaks at the front of the washer are often caused by a clogged overflow tube or an improperly fitted old seal in a front loading washer.

If there is still a leak around the drain hose especially during the washer spin cycle the drainpipe is probably clogged. If you have water leaking from the washer during a wash or drain cycle check the area of the drain pump. The drain hose may be leaking. If your washing machine is equipped with a lint trap or filter inspect and clean it at least once a month.

A leak at the back of the washer can also be caused by a drain hose not properly secured in the drainpipe. Be sure that the hose is fully inserted into the standpipe drainpipe.
