Most bathroom mats can be washed but you should still check the label. Most bathroom rugs are machine washable but it s a good idea to see if yours has special laundering instructions such as heat free drying. Wash the bath mat as normal in your washing machine. Again make sure to use cold water and air dry to preserve your rugs.

You should also select a warm cycle to ensure a deep and thorough clean. Bathroom rugs should be washed with similar fabrics and colors. Look at the care label. Wash bath mats once per week.

How to wash the bath mat. Loads of towels often work best as bathroom rugs will produce some lint and you don t want that on your clothes. If you are washing several rugs in a top loading machine with a center agitator be sure to place them opposite each other so that the machine will stay balanced. It may seem frequent but throwing a bath rug in with a load of laundry or bath towels only takes a few extra seconds.

The rubber backing on the mats requires proper handling or it may permanently damage your rugs. If more than one shower is taken in the bathroom on a daily basis the rug will get wet a lot. Shake the rug outside to get rid of as much hair as possible. If your rug is made of cotton or synthetic fibers it will stand up to washing in.

If you have kids of various ages sharing a bathroom you may have to wash the bath mats more frequently than you would in the master bathroom. How often you wash bath mats depends on whom and how many family members are using the bathroom. If your bath mat has a rubber backing you will probably stretch that to once every two weeks. Shake the rug outdoors.

Set the machine for a large load if washing your bathroom mat set in one load as this will freer movement in the drum. Rubber backed rugs don t skid making them an ideal choice for high traffic areas like the kitchen or bathroom. You ll be surprised and maybe a bit. If a bath mat is in a bathroom with very frequent use you will want to wash it more.
